விழுது-Tsunami Project!!
Wanted: Tamil Speaking volunteers!
Tamil Speaking volunteers and programmers to serve in projects that are addressing problems of tsunami victims!
Viluthu, Centre for Human Resource Development, Sri Lanka, is looking for Tamil speaking volunteers and programmers to serve in projects that are being implemented for communities displaced by the Tsunami.
Viluthu is a non government organization primarily working in the North-East with the mandate to build human and institutional capacities. We established ourselves in march 2003 and are registered as a non profit company. Our Board consists of the following persons:
Shanthi A Sachithanandam, Social Activist, Writer and Gender Specialist (Also the Executive Chair of Viluthu)
Prof. S Sandarasegaram, Faculty of Education, University of Colombo
Prof. P. Balasundarampillai, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna
Mr R. Sivasuthan, Programme Coordinator, IOM and trainer in Social Mobilisation
Mr S. Paskaran, Theatre Activist
Mr K. Nadaraja, former Assistant Commissioner Local Government , Batticaloa
Ms Verni Vijayaraja, Trainer in Entrepreneurship Development, formerly with GTZ
Mr. Nadarajasivam, senior Broadcaster and Advisor to SUN FM of the Asian Broadcasting Corporation
Mr Sivanesaselvan, former editor of Virakesari, Thinakkural and Director of College of
Journalism
In the post Tsunami process, Viluthu is supporting the local NGOs and Community
Based Groups through training in Critical Incident Stress management. We are also involved in building skills of teachers to deal with children affected by Tsunami through the integration of theatre related play activities. In addition to these projects we are also facilitating a program to empower women victims so that they are able to lobby service providers and policy makers for a just delivery of aid and appropriate assistance that puts people back on their feet.
We also hope to build capacities of the local sectors to implement Local Agenda 21 in the reconstruction processes.
Viluthu is looking for dynamic and creative activists (Tamil speaking of course) to work with us for a limited period of time. The applicant should ideally possess a degree in social Sciences or development studies. His or her interests in the field of Media, Gender Issues or Social Movements would be considered an advantage. The focus of the work will largely be lobbying and advocacy , which is essentially - Documentation, Coordination of coalition meetings, dissemination of information, linking resource persons to communities and media work.
